What are Miniature Silky Fainting Goats?

Miniature Silky Fainting Goats are a relatively rare breed in Canada with only a handful of registered breeders.  They were developed in the late 1990's in the United States & have been selectively bred to resemble silky terrier dogs with beautiful straight, floor-length coats.  They are under 24" tall but what they lack in height they make up for in personality!  â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹I strive to maintain the myotonic ("fainting") trait in my breeding program as they do not climb like "regular" goats & my herd is easily contained with just 4 foot high fencing.

They are absolutely wonderful gentle pets that crave human company, attention and snuggles.  My goats are leash trained & I spend hours & hours with babies to ensure they are well handled, and love people.  Why Not Farm is also home to "Konnie" - the 1st Trick Titled goat in Canada!  â€‹â€‹

Due to government restrictions, no new breeding stock had been imported into Canada since 2015 causing the gene pool of quality animals to be extremely limited.  I didn't want to breed my does to unregistered or foundation registered cross-bred stock when beautiful purebred bucks of the highest quality and diverse bloodlines were available in the United States....if only I could get them into Canada!  Without new "blood", I would be sacrificing quality - something I was not willing to do.

Why Not Farm is the ONLY Canadian breeder that was authorized through CFIA to import multiple incredible breeding bucks and new bloodlines from the United States into Canada!  I am the ONLY Canadian breeder to currently have a Master Champion buck, a Jr. Grand Champion buck, multiple breeding bucks that have PRODUCED Master Champions, Grand Champions, and Best in Show winners!

I only breed high quality animals.  It is not enough that they are "registered", or "have long hair".  Just because it is MFSGA or a "silky" does not make an animal worthy of breeding.  I critically evaluate structure, coat texture, quantity and length, myotonia and pedigree.  I have invested A LOT both in money & time in annual CFIA and Scrapies inspections, testing and certification.  My goats are reasonably & fairly priced for their quality, the new bloodlines I have introduced to Canada, and the care that put into my herd with annual testing and health clearances.  My goats are in investment in the future of the breed with their quality and genetics and I am thrilled to be able to offer others the opportunity to move the breed forward in Canada along with me!

I encourage you as a buyer to buy from breeders that health test ALL of their stock (of appropriate age) for the communicable diseases of CAE & Johnes and from farms that do not have cases of CL.  It's not just something breeders need to worry about - if you are buying goats as pets and bring these diseases onto your farm you are exposing all of your present and future animals.  Testing matters!  YES it is expensive & YES it is necessary and should be done.  Buy from an ethical breeder that tests annually - quality knows no compromise.

I love my goats & want to ensure the best possible homes and lives for

them so reserve the right to refuse or cancel a sale at any point.  I always

have the wellbeing of my goats in mind.  Don't hesitate to contact me with

any questions I love to talk about my beautiful sweet herd.
